ISSEY MIYAKE Publication Exhibit
ISSEY MIYAKE, published by TASCHEN in spring 2024, brings together all of Miyake's work from 1960 to 2022. It is a revised and updated edition of the 2016 book of the same title, and initiated and conceived again by Midori Kitamura, who has worked alongside the designer Issey Miyake for more than 50 years.
To celebrate this new edition, this exhibition focuses on Rhythm Pleats which is featured on the new cover of the book. This series of pleated dresses was designed for the ISSEY MIYAKE Spring-Summer 1990 Collection, and each is in elliptical, round and rectangular shapes in flat. This dress shows the dynamic, three-dimensional changes when worn, and it is representative of the work of Miyake who has continuously brought surprise and joy through his design. Also the posters of the dresses featuring photographs by Irving Penn and graphic design by Ikko Tanaka, will be displayed. This new book will be on display in the gallery, and visitors have the opportunity to browse through the pages and connect with the innovation and insight that Miyake brought to the world.
