Opening Talk
Vladimir Yavachev, director of the Christo and Jeanne-Claude Foundation and Christo's nephew, Lorenza Giovanelli, director of the Foundation, and the exhibition director Pascal Roulin will discuss Christo and Jeanne-Claude's lives and "L'Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped."
Noriko Kawakami, Associate Director of 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT, will moderate the discussion and also introduce highlights of the exhibition.

Pascal Roulin (Exhibition Director)
Film Director, Designer and Producer.
Associate of pHstudio (Tokyo) since 1996.
Born in Belgium. Has lived in Paris since 1977 and in Tokyo since 2002.
Started his career in the feature film industry at age of 19, in Paris and in Canada. Has directed and produced hundreds of works in live action, computer graphics and animation; his films include commercials, music video, opera extracts, entertainment rides, contemporary art, architecture, world expo, folktales series and science.
Collaborated with Miyake Design Studio from 1998 until today: Films, Animations, Expos, Design for products, books and logos. Participated in the exhibitions at 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT, such as "Bulls Eye Special 2008" (2008), "REALITY LAB" (2010), "Irving Penn and Issey Miyake: Visual Dialogue" (2011) and others.
Won Golden Nica, Ars Electronica 1993.
Some works: Planetarium films for Miraikan and Imax film of the French Pavilion, at Seville expo'92, Collaboration with IMAX Space Team, Toronto, Concept Design for Animated series (Japan/USA) 2019–2021, Co-directed books of Sculpture.
Vladimir Yavachev (Christo and Jeanne-Claude Foundation)
Vladimir Yavachev was born in Sofia, Bulgaria in 1973. At 17 he moved to New York City to work for his uncle Christo. He has been involved in all of Christo and Jeanne-Claude's major projects for the past 32 years in various capacities in and out of the studio, starting on "The Umbrellas, Japan and USA, 1984–91." He worked as the project director since "The London Mastaba, Serpentine Lake, Hyde Park, 2016–18." After successfully realizing "L'Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped, Paris, 1961–2021," he is currently working on realizing their next work "The Mastaba, Project for United Arab Emirates," which when realized, will be the largest and only permanent sculpture the artist duo dreamed up. He is currently the director of the Christo and Jeanne-Claude Foundation.
Lorenza Giovanelli (Christo and Jeanne-Claude Foundation)
Lorenza Giovanelli was born in Brescia (Italy) in 1990. She is an art historian.
After she worked in museums and contemporary art galleries, in 2016, she was the office manager of Christo and Jeanne-Claude's project "The Floating Piers, Lake Iseo, Italy, 2014–16." Since 2017 she has worked at Christo's studio in New York as collection and exhibition manager. She has contributed to numerous exhibitions and several publications about Christo and Jeanne-Claude, including the upcoming documentary book on "L'Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped, Paris, 1961–2021."
She currently works for the Estate of the artists and serves as director of the Christo and Jeanne-Claude Foundation.
Noriko Kawakami (21_21 DESIGN SIGHT Associate Director)
Worked in Editorial Department of AXIS design Journal, and since 1994, freelance design journalist. Curatorial advisor for London Design Biennale 2016, Guest Curator for Japon Japonismes: Objets inspirés, 1867-2018, 2019, Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris, and Associate Director of 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT. Also serves as Guest Professor in Department of Industrial, Interior and Craft Design, and concurrently as Lecturer in Department of Scenography, Display and Fashion Design, Musashino Art University.
